Grand Theft Auto VI official release announcement showing the GTA 6 logo and release date “Coming November 19, 2026” for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Rockstar Games just hit fans with another disappointing update — GTA 6 has been officially delayed to November 2026, nearly six months later than planned. The setback not only affects PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players but also makes the long-awaited PC version an even more distant dream.

The delay was quietly confirmed on Rockstar’s official GTA 6 website, which updated its release date from May to November 2026. While this might seem minor, it has huge implications for PC gamers, who now face the possibility of waiting years beyond the console launch.

Why PC Players Are Concerned

Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC version of GTA 6 yet, but history tells us it’s almost guaranteed — just not soon. For years, the studio has prioritized console launches before expanding to other platforms.

Back in 2013, GTA V released for PS3 and Xbox 360, followed by PS4 and Xbox One in late 2014, and finally made its way to PC in April 2015 — an 18-month wait. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 2 took about a year to jump from consoles to PC.

Even more extreme, the original Red Dead Redemption didn’t hit PC until 14 years after its 2010 debut.

So while GTA 6 on PC is inevitable, players may not see it until 2027 or beyond if Rockstar’s timeline holds.

Rockstar’s Approach to Platform Releases

This staggered release strategy isn’t random. According to Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, Rockstar has always “started with some platforms and then historically moved to others.”

Zelnick also said PC gaming is “becoming a much more important part” of the company’s business, hinting that PC releases could come faster in the future. However, insiders say Rockstar’s development approach still favors polishing console versions first, leaving the PC port “running in the background.”

Former Rockstar developer Mike York explained, “The PC version is kind of the one in the background. It’s running, but it’s not polished — it’s used to feed the other versions.”

This means that while GTA 6 is already being built with PC in mind, it won’t reach full optimization until well after consoles get their hands on it.

What Else GTA (Rockstar) Is Working On

GTA 6 isn’t the only project on Rockstar’s plate. The studio is reportedly developing:

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 ports for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2
  • A GTA 4 remaster rumored for a 2025 release
  • Ongoing updates to GTA Online, which recently joined the GTA+ subscription service

There’s even speculation that GTA 5 could return to the PlayStation Plus catalog later this year. These side projects could further delay the PC development timeline for GTA 6.

Why Fans Are Frustrated

GTA fans are no strangers to delays, but this one stings more because expectations are sky-high. The first official GTA 6 trailer broke YouTube records, and players have spent months analyzing every detail — from its Miami-inspired setting to character leaks.

Now, with the release window pushed back, many fear Rockstar’s perfectionism could lead to another long wait, similar to GTA 5’s drawn-out cycle.

Still, some fans remain optimistic. Each delay in Rockstar’s history has often resulted in a technically flawless, record-breaking release, proving that waiting usually pays off.

Final Thoughts

Rockstar’s decision to delay GTA 6 again is frustrating but unsurprising. The studio’s commitment to polish is legendary, and while console players will need to wait until late 2026, PC fans should brace for an even longer timeline.

Whether we see a GTA 6 PC port in 2027 or beyond, one thing is certain — Rockstar’s perfectionism rarely disappoints once the wait is over.

Until then, the streets of Vice City remain out of reach, but the hype train shows no signs of slowing down.
